Dear future Happiness Ambassador,
First of all, a huge thank you for being excited about playing with us, and being part of our growing Happiness Tribe. The work we are doing together is big and just because we are having a wonderful time doing it, it does not make it any less important. Quite the opposite, actually.
Here is some information that will help make your Sprinkling a super duper event. The first and biggest thing is to remember the Essences of it:
FUN . JOY . KINDNESS . PLAYFULNESS . INSPIRATION . HAPPINESS.
I would love for you to remember these as you go through the whole process (before, during, and after) and let them guide you. The rest will magically fall into place.
The other thing is that this is a very simple process. That is part of its beauty and power. Don’t overthink it.
Your job is to be a tribe leader and to assemble and guide your chosen team through a simple, joyful and really meaningful event. You can definitely do this.
Also, and this is very important: while Sprinkling, Happiness Sprinklings cannot be representing any organization other than the Happiness Sprinkling Project and the Anacortes Center for Happiness.
Finally, in order to support the Happiness Sprinkling Project, we ask Happiness Ambassadors - with the exception of schools - to please invest a donation that is comfortable to them.
Your only other cost will be the cost of shipping the Signs to their next destination, “Paying the next Sprinkling Forward,” just as yours was sent to you by another Happiness Ambassador. We think of it as Happiness chain letter!
Please read this Guide carefully, and if you have any question, please contact us at:
Ok - here we go. I look forward to hearing from you!
BEFORE YOUR SPRINKLING
SET YOUR DATE
Pick a day and time when you will have the most access to people. Rush hour on a weekday is really great, especially as people tend to be ready for a little boost at that time, as they transition from home to work, their heads sometimes full of worry. Note: because we are doing this globally and will be promoting it on our end as well, it is really important that once you set your date, you commit to it.
PICK A PLACE
Same as above, making sure it is a public place, as opposed to inside a Mall, etc... You are looking for maximum visibility, here. A busy intersection is great and gives you an opportunity to split your troops into 4 “pods,” a few people on each corner. Be sure to keep safety in mind. We don’t want to get in the way of smooth traffic.
Also, pick a place to meet and assemble that is within a short walking distance from where you will be actually Sprinkling (walking there together is tons of fun)
GATHER YOUR HAPPINESS TEAM
You can be a team of 2, or you can be a team of 50.
90 minutes is all the time you will need from them.
How do you find these people?
Start by making a list of the people you know who would love to play with you. Then give them a call and get a commitment from them.
Create a FB event on the Happiness Sprinkling Project page (we will make you an admin on that page) and invite your friends, as well as encourage them to invite theirs. https://www.facebook.com/HappinessSprinklingProject
Below is a good sample of a Facebook event description to get you started. Feel free to get creative. You may use any photo you find on our site or FB page as your Event image.
MAKE SURE TO REMIND EVERYONE TO WEAR BRIGHT YELLOW.
Dear all! People gather to picket injustice, mourn tragedy, rally for all sorts of causes, and to get
drunk and party...why not to sneak surprise ordinary citizens with a little cheer? Kind words can help heal this world...Be part of a random fun way to spread hope, love
and joy! You are invited to join the project! Join LA or start your own!
If you have any friends in media or news please share this project with them--tell the good news!!!
All you need is to:
1)wear a bright (BRIGHT) yellow shirt, sweatshirt or poncho 2)show up, ready to play
(It is really important that people wear bright yellow above their layers. This unites us as a team and the color yellow says “Happiness” in a big way.)
I am excited to invite you to join me! When: (DATE AND TIME) Where: (LOCATION AND DIRECTIONS) What to bring: Yourself!
What to wear: A plain yellow shirt (alternative yellow garments, dresses, jumpsuits and any festive yellow accessories are welcome! Does anyone have a banana costume?)
Signs Provided! Can I bring friends?: Yes, the more the merrier!
What if I can only be there part of the time?: That is fine...any amount of Sprinkling Happiness is welcome!
Can I bring kids?: Yes! as long as you keep them out of traffic!
Contact Numbers: If you have any questions upon arrival or before the event please call: (CONTACT INFOR)
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE who has invited people to this event, will be attending, or spreading cheer in their own way!
The Happiness Sprinkling was founded by a group from The Center For Happiness in Anacortes, WA...The signs are now traveling the US and we are so excited to be part of this happiness movement.
The Happiness Sprinkling Project has been featured on TEDx, The Huffington Post, CBS News, Ellen DeGenere’s blog and more.

See you there!
CONTACT YOUR LOCAL NEWSPAPERS and RADIO STATIONS and send them press releases. You will find your template here. (please use this one template)
ENROLL SOMEONE TO TAKE PHOTOS AND SHORT VIDEOS
RECEIVE YOUR SIGNS - 23 of them.
PRINT YOUR CARDS (this part is really important). You can find the template here. Send these to your local printer and they will take care of it for you. Be sure to print on cardstock, front and back. You are going to need 5 cards per Sprinkler at the minimum. Here is where to find them.
SEND OUT A REMINDER / confirmation to everyone a couple of days before your event
ON THE DAY OF YOUR SPRINKLING
ARRIVE WITH THE SIGNS and let everyone have fun picking “theirs,” reminding them that they can switch-a-roo later on, too.
NOTE: please use only the Signs provided, unless you have gotten prior approval from the HSP.
GIVE EACH SPRINKLER AT LEAST 5 CARDS
so that they may hand them out as people talk with them.
Note: there is a good chance that people will approach you and ask you “what are you doing?” and “what is this for?” and “are you part of an organization?” and more.
Remember that you while it may not seem like it to you, you are doing something out of the ordinary. It is not often that people assemble and spread messages for no other reason than to make themselves and others feel good. No money to be gained, no vote, no nothing. Pure and simple Happiness Sprinkling. This tends to invite suspicion, which is great.
I have found that one of the best ways to get this across is to ask someone if they want to “try it” and hand them a Sign.
Some standard answers are:
“We are part of the Happiness Sprinkling Project, which comes from the Anacortes Center for Happiness. We are excited about spreading a little gentleness, a little joy.”
And then you can give them a card.
HAVE FUN!!!! Dance, wave, hug... whatever feels good to you. This starts with YOU feeling good and then you will be able to pass that energy on to others.
TAKE LOTS OF PICTURES in high resolution!
If possible, take a video (you can interview walkersby). Please try to take a photo in front of a town landmark. Note: please let everyone know that all photos will be the property of the HSP and may appear online, on other people’s sites, on the Project’s site etc...
AFTER AN HOUR, GATHER THE SIGNS, sign the back of the one where everyone else has signed and hug your fellow Happiness Sprinklers goodbye.
Alternately, you can all go out to dinner, a potluck or whatever. Chances are, you will all be “Post Sprinkling High.”
AFTER YOUR SPRINKLING
ENJOY YOUR POST SPRINKLING HIGH
You will feel it for a good while, maybe a smile will be stuck on your face. That’s a really good thing.
EMAIL US ALL THE PHOTOS within three days, at [email protected], using the biggest resolution. Using DropBox is also a great way to send us your pictures.
You may post photos, comments, videos, thoughts on Facebook, making sure to “tag” everyone as well as the HSP on the photos and please email them to us at [email protected] within three days.
SHIP THE SIGNS to their next assignment so that they get there in time.
To ship the package to the next location: 1. Remember to sign and date the “You Are Loved” sign 2. Make sure you have all signs in the box 3. Secure the box with tape 5. Take the box to a FedEx location and fill out one of the FedEx shipping form. 6. On the form select “FedEx Ground” - Shipping will likely be in the range of $20-45.
Again, a big thank you for partnering with us in bringing Joy, Hope and Encouragement. This movement is constantly growing and we are in for a beautiful and magical trip and I can’t wait to hear about YOUR Sprinkling!
